Championing innovation at scaleacross actors, levels, and domains.

What we are

The Meta-Innovation Group is a practitioner–scholar collective bridging rigorous research with real-world transformation. We work where innovation meets complexity — helping organisations, networks, and institutions innovate and orchestrate change across boundaries.

Today’s challenges can’t be solved within silos. They demand coordination across organisations, ecosystems, domains, and levels simultaneously. That’s why we are building the emerging field of meta-innovation — advancing both the theory and practice of innovation at scale.

What we do

Our work spans research, collaboration, and field building — all aimed at understanding and enabling innovation across boundaries. We develop theory through research, translate it into frameworks and strategies with partners, and connect the growing global community shaping this new field of expertise.

We partner with organisations, researchers, and practitioners tackling transformation at scale. Through collaborative research, co-design workshops, applied engagements, and network participation - each partnership becomes part of a shared effort to expand the practice and understanding of meta-innovation in action.

Our Approach

We combine academic depth with practical application. Our approach is grounded in practitioner–scholar fusion, where theory and practice evolve together.

We take a multi-stakeholder orientation, bridging business, government, and civil society. Our embedded research approach means learning through real transformation initiatives, not abstract case studies.

And through open development, we share frameworks and findings to build collective capability rather than proprietary advantage.

About

Dr Shereen Amos is the founder of the Meta-Innovation Group and a practitioner–scholar who bridges innovation theory and practice to help organisations orchestrate transformation across boundaries. If you’re leading change that:

For nearly three decades, most recently as Sugarbird Studios, she has led strategic communication and engagement strategies and programs that align purpose, brand, and systems change. Her portfolio spans global stakeholder research, research documentaries on industry futures, immersive experience design that brings complex ideas to life, and industry engagement platforms that translate insight into coordinated action.

Her experience surfaced a deeper insight that while tools for connection and collaboration have evolved, approaches to innovation have not—and that gap lies at the heart of why transformation through innovation so often falls short.

She completed an MPhil in Inclusive Innovation at the UCT Graduate School of Business, followed by a Doctorate in Business Administration for her dissertation, “From Disruptive Innovation to Meta-Innovation: Reconceptualising and Directing Innovation at Scale”, which was awarded the Managerial Impact Prize 2025. Her research introduces meta-innovation—a framework and praxis for orchestrating transformation across technological, social, and environmental systems.

Shereen translates complexity into actionable insight, linking innovations across organisations and ecosystems to drive meaningful, scalable change. She bridges disciplines, sectors, and perspectives to help diverse stakeholders work toward shared outcomes.

Based in Cape Town, South Africa, she collaborates globally across academia, institutions, enterprises, and civic communities to design pathways toward innovation at scale.
